The conceptual, technical and organizational development of Neuville Grid Data™ started in mid-2016 with an observation. That something increasingly needed was lacking in the electric power sector: high-quality, common reference electrical measurement data on power grid operations. The observation grew out of prior work Neuville’s founder Clarke Simmons did on energy storage. The granular data needed to best inform the physical deployment of energy storage systems in terms of topology and geography and then optimally enable the orchestrated dispatch of a stack of grid services or arbitrage opportunities was largely absent in the marketplace. The analog is the need for solar irradiance and wind data for solar and wind farms respectively.
Lack of High-Quality Data, An Unmet Market Need
Neuville intends to fill this unmet market need through a Technology-to-Market (T2M) strategy that brings forth two new break-through digital technologies developed in California: high-resolution electric power data collection hardware and high-performance time-series database software (‘dataware’). Neuville will deploy them together across the electric power grid. The resulting industrial data-platform can support the development of third-party software applications and compelling new energy services.
Neuville sees its prime market being providing digital infrastructure to the electrical power sector; the generation, transmission, distribution, storage, management and consumption of electricity. This electric power market is undergoing a fundamental transformation. Upon request, Neuville will make its capabilities available to clients in other sectors.
Neuville first two prototype Grid Data Unit (GDU) installations were commissioned in April 2020 at two large solar farms in Bedfordshire and Norfolk England.
Neuville Sees Itself As
Formally organized in the United Kingdom during the summer of 2017, closely-held Neuville Grid Data™ made its public debut in May 2018. From its offices in the vibrant Southbank area of London, Neuville can effectively serve clients across Europe and farther abroad.
A knowledge-intensive company, Neuville has an extensive research, development and demonstration (RD&D) program behind its innovative products and services. This ongoing RD&D effort ensures Neuville is providing its clients with cutting edge hardware products and advanced data services that are highly reliable, secure, and cost-effective. This RD&D activity also results in substantial intellectual property rights that strengthen Neuville’s competitive position.
